The final countdown is on for a stout cold front to blast the region with strong winds and wintry temperatures. The front is currently entering Iowa and will spear my western counties around 10pm and be across the Mississippi River by 3am. Come Friday morning temperatures will be in the upper 30s to low 40s. The pressure streamlines clearly indicate where the front is situated around mid-day.

Temperatures are also a good indicator. Look at the spread. Already 25 degrees from NW to SE within Iowa.

This is an animation of projected wind chills as they spread across the Midwest with the cold front tonight into Saturday. This is fascinating. A wall of cold air with wind chills dropping well into the 20s by Saturday morning.

Occasional showers and perhaps a thunderstorms will be found in advance of the front through this evening. The early afternoon radar.

When the rain departs tonight the party begins!
