Late this afternoon a train loaded with cold air is blasting across the Midwest. Here's the latest temperatures.
Here's a closer view of Iowa where the front is about 60 miles west of Des Moines. At 4pm it was 37 in Sioux City while in Des Moines it was a mild 62...not for long.
Get a load of the wind chills out west. Mercy!
The cold will surge rapidly east overnight. Here's the projected temperatures as we go through the night.
Readings will hold steady or fall all day long Friday with gusty winds making it feel much colder than it is (which is saying something)!
Friday night temperatures will continue to slide and it looks like many spots have a good chance of reaching lows of 29-32. A Freeze watch is in effect and I suspect that will be upgraded to a freeze warning in much of the region by tomorrow.
Make your plans accordingly. The train is right on schedule.
