CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR....
A low pressure system will bring active weather to the Midwest this weekend. Precipitation begins late Friday night and will continue on an occasional basis through Sunday. A wintry mix is expected at first across NW Iowa, Minnesota and parts of Wisconsin with rain further south. As colder air moves in during the day Saturday the wintry mix will change to all snow over the NW half of Iowa and continue Saturday night into Sunday morning . ANOTHER WEEKEND, ANOTHER POTENT STORM....
It's been a November to remember for much of North America thanks to a relentless onslaught of early season cold air. As you can see below the heart of the chill has been centered directly over the nation's bread basket. High temperatures have been especially cold running 10-12 degrees below normal per day. In Cedar Rapids 11 of our 28 November days highs have been 32 or below. 7 days have remained in the 20s. 11 lows have been 19 or below (the coldest 9). The highest tempera

NEXT STORM UP.....
In retrospect Sunday's blizzard in parts of Iowa, Missouri and Illinois was rare indeed. Up to 17" of snow and winds of 40-50 mph is tough to produce at any time of the year let alone November 25th. Well, the big blizzard of 2018 did a number on southern Iowa and much of NW Illinois. The most snow reported was 17" in Oskaloosa, Iowa. The peak wind 50 mph. Although the storm pretty much did what I expected, it was a disappointment in one way. It missed me. The one guy who would have been thrilled beyond belief and I never even saw a flake. Boy does that hurt. To show you how how tight the cut was I put together this graphic. In Cedar Rapids you only have to go 25 miles SE

Snow in Muscatine Sunday evening, via John Miller Heavy snow is still falling in the Midwest tonight. It will continue to move east and eventually come to an end. Cold air has already moved in and it will be even colder where the heavy snow has fallen. As of 6:30 pm here's the snowfall totals across the Midwest: And a zoomed in on my local area:
NOTE: This map is a rough contour and showing snow too far north. Most of the snow stayed south of Highway 30. Check out that sharp
