JUST WAIT FIVE MINUTES...

The Mark Twain saying was incredibly true Tuesday in Iowa -- if you don't like the weather... wait five minutes!

These images were taken two hours apart near Des Moines on Tuesday afternoon. On Monday Des Moines had a high temperature of 69°. On the second day of Spring cotton balls fell from the sky:

Doesn't look like much snow around, but it's going to take a little time for spring to bounce back. Check out the temperature departures then next two days around the Midwest:

Temperatures will be in the 30s, 40s and 50s on Wednesday across all of the Midwest and that equals 5 to 15 degrees below normal. On Thursday that area of below normal temperatures shrinks and the glob of warmer air will continue to move east. Friday's temperature departure looks like this:

So let's look at the actual high temperatures... temperatures go from this on Wednesday:

To this on Friday:

A difference of over 20 degrees in spots! It doesn't last long as temperatures come right back down over the weekend.

Not only will temperatures be up and down, but we're going into a pretty active period. Check out the energy in this pattern the next 7 days:

Lots of kinks in the pattern and that's going to lead to a wet and stormy time in the Central U.S. Here's a look at the storms in the Midwest on Thursday, Friday and Saturday on the GFS:

There will be some shifts in the tracks of these systems and that will change where the heaviest of the rain falls. Buckle up... this is just the beginning of the roller coaster ride!
