COOL FALL AIR ON THE MOVE...

A cold front will move through the Midwest and cooler air will move in for the end of the weekend and start of the week. This will just be the first shot of fall this coming week.

Ahead of the front temperatures warmed into the 70s and 80s across the central United States Saturday afternoon. Strong thunderstorms developed and will move through until early Sunday. Rainfall totals will be between a half an inch to two inches across the Midwest.

This continues to add to the mild and wet October we've had so far. Temperatures as a whole this month are checking in over seven degrees above normal in Cedar Rapids. That places October 2017 as the second warmest on record so far. Rainfall isn't at a record high, but it has been nearly two inches above normal. This has significantly improved the drought conditions across the Midwest.

There is no longer an extreme drought and the severe drought conditions shrunk. The rain this weekend will continue to help the deficits and get us back on track. It will be mostly dry this week with high pressure moving into place. Cooler air will settle in to start the week and temperatures will be much cooler Sunday afternoon.

Another cold front will move in and drag down even colder air.

This will be the first time temperatures will be below normal in eight straight days across much of the Midwest. Overall cool air will remain in place through the rest of the week and may lead to the first frost of the season around my area. More on that tomorrow.
