ROUNDS OF WHITE GOLD...

Two rounds of snow moved through the Upper Midwest over the last two days. The first started Thursday night into Friday. It brought heavy snow to parts of my local area and even heavier snow into the Great Lakes region.

A wider view of the Midwest through Friday morning -- there was still snow falling through the day Friday, too.

A disturbance set up along a boundary and that led to 7 to 10 inches of snow in spots. Because most of this snow fell in northern Iowa and northern Illinois, this forced the boundary further south. A second disturbance rolled in and brought snow to areas to the south of the heavy snow.

In Cedar Rapids we picked up around 5-6" of fresh powder - just beautiful!

Snow will be winding down across the Midwest by midday Saturday and it will be a cold weekend. Saturday afternoon:

Saturday night there will be yet another disturbance that will move through and bring very light snow even further south.

This will just lead to one to two inches of accumulation. Here's the projection from the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities -

One last shot of light snow before the pattern really calms down. Snow moves out early Sunday and it'll be cold once again with several inches of snow on the ground:

Little to no precipitation is expected as we head into the first half of next week. Hopefully once you're done shoveling you can enjoy the beauty of winter! If not... Spring starts in 38 days!
