A SOGGY JUNE... FOR SOME

It's not unusual for June to be a wet month - in fact it's typically the rainiest month of the year in the Midwest. In my local area there has been a lot of rain... In fact June 2018 in Cedar Rapids will settle in as the 7th wettest June on record with over nine inches of rain.

Unfortunately not everyone in the Upper Midwest has been as fortunate with the precipitation this month. Some parts of the Midwest are still experiencing a drought..

The first two weeks of July unfortunately don't look promising for drought busting... Here's the outlook from the Climate Prediction Center through July 14..

Precipitation is expected to be near and slightly below normal as we begin July in the Upper Midwest. It's mostly going to start off hot...

Temperatures will likely be above normal during the first two weeks of July. There will be a little reprieve from the extreme heat Sunday and into the start of next week...

Heat and humidity start to build back in as a very strong ridge (area of high pressure) settles into the central United States next week.

By the 4th of July the heat really gets going again. And with all of this heat, humidity and moisture around there will surely be the chance for some showers and thunderstorms. The rain just may not end up in the places that need it most....

Stay cool....
