HELLO, WINTER!

January 13, 2019

Winter has made a comeback in a big way in parts of the Midwest. In portions of Missouri there is now 12 to 17 inches of snow on the ground in spots.

Zoomed into my local area and southern Iowa once again gets slammed with the snow. The golden shovel goes to Udell with 14.5 inches.

Prior to this snow you had to head way north to find snow on the ground in the Midwest. In fact, it's been a month and a half in my area since we've had a decent snowfall.

Now with the snow on the ground it is going to be colder around these parts. Especially in the snowpack. Temperatures Sunday afternoon:

And then the coldest comes that night into Monday morning:

And this is going to be the new normal.. a more wintry feel and a more active pattern during the second half of January into February. However, there may not be much action around the Midwest over the next 4-5 days. Little precipitation is expected through Thursday:

But here's the precipitation outlook for January 18-22 from the Climate Prediction Center:

 And the temperature outlook...

Winter's made a comeback and it's likely here to stay for a while...
