THE FALL EQUINOX

By the time many of you read this it will officially be "fall" and it will feel like it outside too. The Fall Equinox is at 2:50 am on Monday, September 23rd.

From timeanddate.com, "On the two equinoxes every year the Sun shines directly on the Equator and the length of day and night is nearly equal – but not exactly. The September equinox marks the moment the Sun crosses the celestial equator – the imaginary line in the sky above the Earth’s equator – from north to south and vice versa in March." This is point in the year when we start to lose daylight more rapidly and we'll (eventually) see cooler temperatures.

We have been in summer lately with a lot of warmth and moisture. Here's a look at the precipitation that fell on Saturday.

The rain started to wind down Sunday and some more fall-like air will move in to start the week. Here's the high temperatures Monday:

Closer to normal and the humidity will be low. Same thing with the low temperatures... here's a look at Tuesday morning:

Summer will come back though in the form of a cold front Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

The Storm Prediction Center is already monitoring portions of the Midwest for strong storms...

Large hail will be the biggest threat with those thunderstorms. Thereafter it'll be dry until Friday or Saturday when another front comes in. Precipitation will likely remain above normal through the end of September, which has already been a wet month for many in the Upper Midwest.
