TRANSITION TIME UNDERWAY...

The winter storm continues its march east across the area, Most spots have seen at least 2-4" of snow (locally 5") with a howling wind. Here are some reports from the Iowa Mesonet. There's been more in spots, it just hasn't been publicly reported,

Now the transition is on from snow to sleet to freezing rain. Then some areas will even see a period of light rain or drizzle as temperatures reach or even exceed freezing by daybreak, especially near and south of HWY 20. Before that happens some spots could see up to 1/10th of an inch of freezing rain.

Around 8 or 9 am Saturday a powerful arctic front slams the area bringing strong winds and falling temperatures. Most spots will drop more than 30 degrees from Saturday morning to Saturday evening. There is also a chance of more snow showers attending the front but the amounts should be less than an inch. Last but not least, we end the weekend cold and dry with highs on Sunday 0 to 5 degrees.
