SOME RUMBLES OF THUNDER...

March 9, 2020

We had an incredible spring weekend around the Midwest. It came with some wind, but that propelled temperatures into the 60s and even 70s Sunday afternoon! Here's a map via the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities -

As we head through the day Monday a cold front will be passing through. That will bring rain showers and even some rumbles of thunder to the Midwest. Here's a look at the projected radar via the HRRR (hi-resolution rapid refresh) model:

Rain will be likely for much of the day, but if you hear some rumbles of thunder Monday morning don't be surprised. There's some (limited) instability. Here's a look at some of the CAPE (convective available potential energy) values Monday morning:

It's not a lot, but it's enough that some thunder might get going. With that, we will be seeing a prolonged rain event that will lead to some decent rainfall totals.

We haven't had much precipitation lately and this looks to be the beginning of an active pattern in the Midwest. The Climate Prediction Center is actually keeping above normal precipitation chances through March 18th.

There will be a few more system this week with elevated rain chances Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Temperatures generally stay above normal during this time, despite the active pattern, in the 40s and 50s. RK

There's still space available for about 25 people in our newest addition of weather school. We've put a lot of work into developing interesting and educational content with the goal of teaching you how to foresee and forecast severe weather. The small size of the class will allow a very personal and interactive experience. This will be a fantastic chance to see and learn about the most violent storms on earth. It's a robust session with interactive simulations and heart thumping videos! Click on the banner below for more details or, email the fabulous Carolynswettstone@yahoo.com to grab a spot. Would love to have you as our guest.
