In June of 2008, the rivers of eastern Iowa surged above their banks creating floods of historic proportions. Never before had the area seen such epic flooding. UnNatural Disasters takes you behind the scenes of what created this perfect storm with clear concise explanations, riveting graphics, and incredible photography. Along with the Floods of 2008, this area also suffered from the first EF5 tornado to wreak havoc in Iowa in nearly four decades. The two disasters combined left eastern Iowa struggling to recover from the violence of Mother Nature. UnNatural Disasters provides never-before-told stories of the survivors, the rescuers, and the heroes. It offers both a look at the heart of these two natural disasters and the clarity of scientific examination. A must read.

Carolyn Wettstone explores weather phenomena through the eyes of a child in her new children's book, "All I Want for Christmas is to See a Tornado." The book's protagonist is based on her husband, KGAN Chief Meteorologist Terry Swails. In the book, 9-year-old "Little Terry" ventures out into the Great Plains with Santa Claus to see his first tornado. It is a whimsical and entertaining story which explains to children how to safely chase storms. "I've been reading to my daughter since she was an infant and after reading thousands of books, you know what you want your child’s experience to be,” Wettstone said. "You want them to be engaged. You want them to react to the pictures. You want them to react to the words, but most importantly, you want them to learn something."
