WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT, THE DETAILS...

A late week storm will bring the threat of several inches of snow and some ice Friday afternoon and night to many parts of the central Midwest. This will be another challenging forecast as it involves transitions from snow to ice and even some rain, especially in the southern half of the region (HWY 30 south).

Potential icing parameters from the NWS

There's an in depth discussion for the NWS in the Quad Cities that's good and I agree with in general so I'm including that for some hard core in depth perspective from the dudes.

These are the latest snowfall forecasts on the models. Right now the GFS and Canadian are substantially heavier and what I would consider to be outliers unless the cold air can hold longer.
