100 MPH WINDS BATTER CEDAR RAPIDS...

A violent thunderstorm has produced 100 mph winds and significant damage in parts of Benton and Linn counties in EC Iowa. That includes Cedar Rapids where my sources indicate widespread damage and power outages. Unofficially 112 mph winds were indicated just north of Cedar Rapids near Midway.

Radar shows the area of strongest winds in velocity mode over northern Linn County moving east. Places like Anamosa and perhaps Maquoketa are in line for those intense winds next.

As you can see a bow echo continues to race east and will threaten most of the area along and south of HWY 20 with gusts of 65 to as much as 90 mph as it surges toward the Mississippi. I did hear of 80-90 mph winds recently near Tipton and Wilton, Iowa and those types of winds are possible in the Quad Cities within an hour.

Far eastern Iowa and western Illinois can expect severe thunderstorms and damaging winds within the hour. Roll weather...TS
