FIRST SNOW TO END THE WEEKEND

Thanksgiving 2023 was highlighted by a large helping of beautiful weather. Dry conditions covered the entire Midwest and with temperatures in the 40s, it was a fine day to walk off some of those excess calories.

The dry weather will hold through Saturday, but temperatures are definitely trending colder thanks to a cold front which slipped through the region Thursday. You can see readings in NW Minnesota are already down in the single digits late Thanksgiving evening. That will keep highs the remainder of the holiday weekend in the low to mid 30s, about 10 degrees below normal.

SNOW FOR SUNDAY...

Some passing clouds will pass through our skies Friday before thicker clouds arrive later Saturday associated with Sunday's system. Recently, models have trended a little more amplified, with the associated trough. That serves to slow the system, allowing a slight increase in moisture and forcing. The bottom line is chances for accumulating snow have inched up. As it stands now, most of the accumulations come late Saturday night and Sunday morning. Total liquid precipitation is pegged to end up in the range of .09 to .17 inches. That's not overwhelming, but enough to drop a swath of 1 to perhaps 2 inches of snow. With the colder weather that's coming before the snow, that will likely lead to some minor travel issues Sunday.

48 hours ahead of the event, this is what models are suggesting for snow totals through Sunday morning.

Behind the system, a reinforcing surge of cold air gets next week off to a fresh start with well below normal highs in the low 30s.

After that, guidance shows a flattening of the upper level jet which allows another wave of mild air to flood the Midwest. Nothing crazy but strong enough to get readings back in the 40s.

That's all for now. I'm spending the rest of the evening with my mom Rose, who turns 94 in two weeks. She cares more about me than the weather. Imagine that. Thanks for understanding, and hopefully you all had the chance to spend quality time with the ones you love over the holiday! Roll weather...TS
