SUNDAY SEVERE THREAT....

Spring has finally showed up again with warmth, mugginess, and storms. Some strong storms moved through the region Saturday night, mostly producing large hail and a few tornadoes:

Storms cleared and the sun is shining Sunday morning... re-fueling the atmosphere for another round of strong storms tonight. Temperatures will rocket up well above normal and to near 90 in spots!

The dividing line between 70s and 80s will be a warm front, which will be the focus for thunderstorm activity this afternoon and evening. Along and south of the front, instability will grow through the day.

In those spots is where the Storm Prediction Center has put an enhanced risk (3 out of 5 on the scale) of severe weather:

All types of severe weather is possible with the system today - large hail, strong winds, and tornadoes. Storm have the potential to be intense, even in the overnight hours. This is a breakdown from the National Weather Service in Des Moines:

A lot of the day will be dry, with storms developing after 5-6 pm. Those early storms will have the potential to be tornadic and produce large hail:

Additional thunderstorms will come overnight and strong winds will be likely through the early morning hours of Monday:

Make sure you are keeping a close eye on the weather, especially in the late afternoon/evening when the tornado risk is highest -- that potential is going to be with a few, isolated storms. Noisy storms with powerful winds will persist through 3-4 am.

There may be a few storms Monday with dry, warm weather through Thursday.
