CHASE PIC OF THE DAY...

THE GROVE INTO THE STORM CHASE PIC OF THE DAY

Crossing the Kansas border Friday night the first thing we encountered was rain, lots of it. Since we've been here every storm has been a prolific rain producer. Rainfall rates of 1-2" per hour not at all uncommon. The fields look like oceans and we've run into several roads that were washed out and turned into dead ends. As a chaser, there is nothing worse than being hot on the trail of a tornado warned storm and then being stopped dead by a washed out bridge or a muddy rut filled road. In today's picture of the day sponsored by the Grove Bar and Grill in Scotch Grove you can see the problems we are facing.

On a positive note, today has high tornado potential. I'm currently in Garden City,Kansas on the way to the Colorado border where we expect storms to initiate later on. The Storm Prediction Center has a moderate risk in place which is a very significant assessment.

The tornado risk is 15% hatched which means the potential of strong tornadoes exists, especially with any discrete storms that develop early.

We are excited about today's prospects and optimistic about our chances. Hopefully we can bring you some video of a wicked supercell later today. Until then roll weather...TS

PS.. If you are up in the Scotch Grove Monticello area stop in at the Grove bar and grill and enjoy some of the fine food and drinks. Tell them T. Swails sent you!
