We have a brand new weather school planned for April 4th. This one is called Severe Storms 101. If you want to know more about the ins and outs of severe thunderstorms and how to forecast them this will be a great introductory session. There will be event simulations and a big focus on tornadoes. Some tips on chasing them as well. First and foremost I do want to clarify one thing. I have no beef with the NWS . I have the utmost respect for the people who work there and the job they do. I have friends there and want to keep them! I'm a humble dude in a humbling business and we are all in it for the same reason, to give you the best thought process and forecasts possible. This is not a contest. My only issue right now is with how much snow can make it into eastern Iowa and I'm sure that's front and center at their offices as well.

2 NEW SNOWFALL FORECASTS:

Also, to show both sides of this storm I do have some fresh data which is based on the hi-res U.S. based models known as the 3K and 12K NAM. This is hot off the press and still indicates the potency of the storm, especially from their perspective. They both plaster the Quad Cities and points east with a foot or more of snow. SE Iowa is on on the act too!

Compare those totals to what the EURO is showing. 2-4" or as much as 15". That's your range right now.

Hopefully this issue of snow placement is solved by noon tomorrow. I still think the edge goes to the EURO but the extremes are too big to ignore. That's the purpose of the winter storm watches, to give you a heads up. While I wonder if they might go too far west and north its not worth losing sleep over. When the warnings go out tomorrow I'm sure they will be properly placed.
