A PERSONAL APPEAL

Hi all. I'm still searching for $1,173 dollars to reach my fund-raising goal (I'm 92% there). Personally, I'm appealing to those of you who appreciate the reliability, honesty, accuracy, and knowledge of the site, to consider a donation, (especially if it helps with financial decisions related to your business). If you fall into any of these categories and find value in the effort put forth, I humbly ask that you make a $20 dollar investment into this unique and reliable product.

Thanks so much, T. Swails

EVERYTHING BUT THE KITCHEN SINK...

A true early spring storm promises to bring everything but the kitchen sink this week. It will begin with warm air building in overnight into Monday. That may trigger a view light showers (rain and/or freezing rain) early Monday morning:

Warm air will build in and temperatures will rise well into the 50s Monday afternoon:

STORM GENESIS....

Scattered showers will begin to move in overnight into early Tuesday as a strong low pressure system draws closer: It signifies the beginnings of a strong late winter storm.

ree

Rain will become more widespread and heavier through the late morning and continue through the day Tuesday, with temperatures holding in the upper 40s to low 50s:

ree

This storm has already produced severe weather in the south and will have the potential to produce thunderstorms nearby, especially in far southern Iowa. Heavy rain is a concern, with totals of 1–2 inches, maybe more in the I-80 corridor.

ree

Since the ground is still somewhat frozen, the rain will likely run off and could lead to rises on area creeks and streams. There could be flash flooding on some roads that are prone to flooding/in low-lying areas.

The rain will begin transitioning to snow Wednesday morning:

ree

While snow won't be heavy, 1-2 inches could accumulate NW of the Quad Cities. Amounts further SE should be confined to an inch or less. However, strong winds will have impacts. Winds will increase through Wednesday, with gusts topping 50 mph:

ree

The strong winds could create visibilty problems with even minor snow accumulations. Visibility could be low with the strong winds and falling snow. Definitely something to monitor as we get a better handle on exact timing.

Snowfall totals have remained fairly consistent with the heaviest snow falling to the northwest of the area with the potential of 1-2 inches NW of a line from about Ottumwa to Iowa City to near Dubuque . Here's the latest from the European model:

And the GFS:

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for portions of central and NE Iowa for Tuesday night and Wednesday. Several inches of snow and winds up to 50 mph have the potential to create near blizzard conditions and very difficult travel conditions.

ree

It's all a taste of March madness as temperatures crash into the 30s Wednesday:

ree

There will be another system we'll have to watch on Friday that also has some snow potential.

Roll weather, and if you can spare a donation, we will see to it that it's money well spent....Meteorologist Rebecca Kopelman
