IT'S BEEN A WHILE....

A MESSAGE FROM TSWAILS....

Hi everyone, I realize times are tough, and we are all feeling the pinch of inflation. That's the primary reason why this is a no pay site. However, I really could use your help to raise funds for the operational costs and time I invest in this site. Donations have been significantly down this year and to reach my goal of breaking even, I have a long way to go. Many of you are daily visitors and make financial or personal decisions based on the information presented. The majority of you appreciate the honesty, accuracy, and knowledge that you gain. If you fall into any of those categories, I ask that you make a $20 dollar investment in what I feel is a unique and reliable product. That way, we can keep things rolling as they have for more than 12 years. The future is in your hands, and I hugely appreciate the generosity of those who have contributed. So again, if you find value in the site and see the effort that's put into it, please consider a minimal donation to support TSwails today. Thanks for your time and loyalty, TS

I'M SMELLING SNOW

We all know what's coming... and it's been a "long" time coming. The battle map has been drawn with Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories. The Winter Storm Watches (in blue) will be upgraded later today.

Colder air is settling in now and will lead to a fresh day Tuesday:

That cold air is an important component to Wednesday's winter storm, which will lead to high snowfall ratios and fluffy snow that could add up quick.

Snow will start in the morning in Iowa on Wednesday and remain persistent for around 12-16 hours:

The high snowfall ratios, the very saturated atmosphere, and energy in the dendritic growth zone (known as the snow zone) will allow for high snowfall rates with ratios up to 15:1.

Here's the latest output from the European:

Here's the GFS: The GFS has been staunch in its depiction of a more southeasterly track. On the other hand, the EURO has been adamant on one further northwest. Somebody needs to step aside.

The 10K Canadian based GEM shows this for snow totals. More like the EURO.

And this is the current forecast from the NWS out of the Quad Cities:

Suffice it to say, it's going to snow, and it will have impacts being the biggest storm of the season so far, which isn't saying all that much. It's been a year since we've had 3" or more in a single day! That last time was January 12, 2024 in the Quad Cities. For Cedar Rapids, a little under a year on March 22, 2024!

Remember, the impact from this long-lasting snow event, no matter what the amounts, will be slick roads, low visibility, and snowfall rates as high as 1 inch per hour later Wednesday afternoon or evening. We will have a final assessment on trends by late afternoon Tuesday. By then, winter storms warnings are likely to be in effect for many areas. Terry is at a conference in Des Moines teaching forecasting techniques that was scheduled a year ago, so he's a bit torn. (what does he know anyway, LOL). That dog hunts! Rest assured, he is thinking about you and will do his best to keep you informed with updates when possible, as will I. KGAN TV Chief Meteorologist Rebecca Kopelman. Think snow, roll weather, and if you can spare a donation, TS will see to it that it's money well spent....RK
