NEW DAY, NEW SNOW PROJECTIONS...
The morning model runs are down, and it still looks like we are on for another significant winter storm. Much of the area remains under winter storm warnings beginning late tonight and lasting into midday Saturday. A long duration event. Advisories are out in the far south where snow amounts will be less.
The purple areas are where odds are greater than 80 percent that warning criteria will be met.
As you can see below, snow begins by morning and as winds increase and temperature fall by Friday night, considerable blowing snow is possible. The NWS messaged that odds are 50 percent that a blizzard warning could be issued for parts of the area. Note as well that a few spots in the south, especially near and south of HWY 34 could see some freezing rain or drizzle.
Here's the most likely region to see and mix or freezing rain.
This NWS graphic shows wind gusts that should fall into the range of 40-45 mph. Winds remain strong through Sunday. Additionally, come Sunday morning, temperatures will be below zero and could stay there all day long. Wind chills Sunday of 20 to 30 below are expected.
At least for now, this is the official snowfall forecast from the NWS. It will be updated later this afternoon. The ranges could be a bit higher in some of my northern counties.
As for new models, here's what they are suggesting. They are not forecasts, just raw data that forecasts are derived from.
The GFS
The EURO
The HRRR
The 12K NAM
The 3k NAM
I'll have some new runs to share early this evening. Until then, roll weather...TS
