A SPECIAL MESSAGE, I need your help to fund the site

I would like to thank the 335 amazing people who have stepped up to the plate and made a donation to fund the site through this December. In the past year, TSwails had over 600,000 sessions, meaning less than 1 donation per session. If you do not find value in the site or don't have the funds, I understand and welcome you with open arms. For those of you here daily, who gain knowledge, or make financial decisions based on the information, I ask that you make a reasonable contribution. Every little bit helps. After much deliberation, I've decided that due to the daily commitment of time, money, and hard work, this will be the last year for the site if I don't reach my financial goal. I'm 89 percent there. The future depends on you. Thank you for your consideration and support the past 13 years. T. Swails

SIGNS OF SOME SNOW NEXT WEEK...

There's some chatter going around about a potential snow system next week. Granted, it's still early, but guidance has come into better agreement today on the potential system Thursday night/Friday morning. The general idea is that short wave energy will dive southeast out of Canada and amplify over the Midwest. The compact energy at 500mb is shown below next Thursday.

At the surface, both the EURO and GFS depict a low pressure that tracks from the SW tip of Iowa to southern Indiana. A band of snow lays out north of the system that accordingly tracks E/SE through Iowa and northern Iliinois.

The EURO depiction

The GFS depiction.

Moisture is not plentiful but there should be enough for a swath of 3-5, maybe 6 inches of snow. Ensembles are not tightly clustered yet which means the track still has plenty of time to be altered. As such, confidence is moderate that a snow system develops, but still on the low side as to where it tracks. Today's raw model output, which is likely to change some in coming days, shows this for snowfall potential. Keep in mind that this is not a forecast, far from it. What were interested in here is the trend of several inches of snow somewhere in the central Midwest. Amounts and track are irrelevant this early in the game. In fact, ensembles have no more than a 30-40% chance of 3 or more inches, due mainly to the distance to the event.

The GFS

So, now we play the waiting game to get some hard trends on all the open questions that will determine if we do any shoveling next week. Something to keep an eye on going forward. Roll weather...TS ON A MORE SERIOUS NOTE, IF I CAN'T MEET MY FINANCIAL GOALS, THIS WILL BE THE LAST YEAR OF THE SITE. IF YOU LIKE THE CONTENT, THE FUTURE IS UP TO YOU. T.S. 89% to my goal.
