OPTIMISM FOR THE FUTURE

Hey guys, we are on the cusp of reaching the funding I need to get the site through another year. I'm at 94% of the necessary goal. Nothing would make me happier or more relieved to get it behind me. I just need a little bump to get over the hump. If you use the site daily, find it informative, or make financial decisions based on it, please consider a donation. Any bit helps to keep the site going in its no-pay format. Nick and I will work hard to bring you the reliable value you have come to expect the last 13 years. The future is up to you. Thank you for your help!

WHAT A FINE DAY...

Holy cow, what a day we have going. Temperatures from I-80 south have gone over 70 at mid-afternoon with Ft. Madison, Davenport, Burlington and Keokuk at 73. The driving force behind the warmth is DRY AIR! Humidity levels of 19-25 percent are common. Get this, Centerville, in SC Iowa at 2:15pm reported an 11 percent humidity with a temperature of 73 and a dew point of 16. No way you can get rain out of that air mass!

As hard as it is to swallow, this is a one day wonder and the passage of a cold front tonight drops temperatures as much as 30 degrees Saturday. You can see where the front is laid out tomorrow afternoon over central Missouri.

That drives even more dry air into the pattern Saturday and that means the next system Sunday night will have a fight on its hands to get moisture and snow back into the area. Yesterday the EURO ensemble 51 member mean had this for accumulations Sunday night. Much of the area from I-80 south was showing 2-3 inches of snow.

The GFS ensemble was further south, just catching my far southern counties with an inch or two.

Today, it looks more like a nothingburger. More important, and this is another bid deal, The GFS beats the EURO again being the furthest south on the system for days. Finally the EURO has caught on. This is the 3rd consecutive event that the GFS has trumped the EURO and I don't know that I've ever seen that. The king has a chink in its armor! Here's the latest raw model output for snow Sunday night using the operational models. The EURO may still be too far north with the amount of dry air I'm seeing.

The GFS

The EURO

At worst, an inch may clip the far south with the rest of us riding high and dry, but definately cooler. It appears the next chance at precipitation comes late Monday night. That would come in the form of a chilly rain with readings in the 40s to start next week. Readings slowly but surely climb after that as a trough deepens over the west. In theory that should get enough moisture back in the pattern to bring improved rain chances later in the week. The EURO shows this for temperatures the next 2 weeks.

Say your farewell to today's warmth, it's about to hit the road. That said, it sure was good to know you! Have a fantastic weekend and roll weather...TS ON A MORE SERIOUS NOTE, IF I CAN'T MEET MY FINANCIAL GOALS, THIS WILL BE THE LAST YEAR OF THE SITE. IF YOU LIKE THE CONTENT, THE FUTURE IS UP TO YOU. T.S. 94% to my goal.
