WHERE'S SUMMER?

This weekend wasn't a typical August weekend - temperatures ran well below normal across the Midwest and the humidity was nice and low. There will be some moderation in temperatures through the work week, but overall it will feel more like fall than summer.

Temperatures on Monday will still be running 5 to 10 degrees below normal. Additionally the humidity will be low with dew points in the upper 50s and low 60s.

Doesn't look like there's going to be much change in this pattern. The Climate Prediction Center keeps a pretty good chance of below normal temps around through the middle of the month.

With the relatively low temperatures and relatively low humidity comes lower instability. Any showers and thunderstorms that develop in the area won't pack a big punch. (At least not as big of a punch if the dew points were into the 70s). Rainfall is looking meager around here over the next seven days....

There are some indications summer may make a little bit of a comeback toward the end of August. The trend can be seen here on this meteogram for Cedar Rapids through the next 16 days:

For now, the preview of fall rolls on....
