SNOW AND RAIN DONE, COLD BEGINS....

As quick as it came, the snow that whitened the northern third of my area has come and gone. A few flurries or snow showers will linger into the evening but little if any additional accumulation is expected. Up to 4" was measured near Waukon and Lansing, Iowa in Allamakee County.

The heaviest snows ended up in the NE quadrant of Iowa into SW Wisconsin. Up to an inch fell as far south as Cedar Rapids northeast towards Dubuque, roughly near and north of HWY 30. The EURO had the right idea but was a bit far s/east with the heaviest axis.

Rain that's falling near and east of the Mississippi will taper of early this evening. A brief mix or change to snow is possible before that happens.

The main concern now is much colder temperatures which will sink southeast overnight. Already temperatures in NW Iowa are in the single digits at 5pm.

WInd chills have reached 12 below. Just over the Iowa border chills have hit -21 around Worthington, Minnesota.

By morning the NW will see dangerous wind chills to 30 below. Most of my area in Iowa will end up with values around 0 to 10.

Needless to say the first day of 2019 is going to be a fresh one. Roll weather and again Happy New Year...TS
