CHASE PIC OF THE DAY
THE GROVE INTO THE STORM CHASE PIC OF THE DAY
Monday's chase day was exceptional. We chased for 7 consecutive hours and only needed 2 supercells to occupy the entire time. In the picture of the day you can see a huge mesocyclone that eventually came directly over our heads. It was spinning like a top and packed full of large hail and winds of 80+ mph. Truly a mesmerizing sight!
Today's chase has the potential to be just as action filled further east. Out target today is Emporia, Kansas which is in a moderate risk zone extending across NE Kansas and northern Missouri. If we can keep storms in a discrete mode for a 2-3 hours along a convectively enhanced boundary we could have the day we've been hoping for (one that produces a healthy tornado).
With that I will sign off from somewhere in north central Kansas where the gang and I are traveling down a lonely stretch of rain soaked highway. Catch ya later with updates. Roll weather...TS
PS. To my friends at the Grove Bar and Grill in Scotch Grove, Iowa, send us a load of your top notch burgers. Chasing works up an appetite and a batch of those would be mighty satisfying. Stop in and give em a try!
