A RETURN TO SPRING....

It's been awful summery around here... the warmth, the humidity, the gnats, and the thunderstorms. That's going to change as we enter the new week.

Take a look at the temperature departures across the Upper Midwest for the first week of June:

Temperatures have been averaging a degree to as much as ten degrees above normal over the last seven days! It was another warm day Saturday and it will be mild once again Sunday ahead of a cold front...

That cold front will bring the chance for some scattered showers and thunderstorms - nothing too widespread or heavy.

An area of low pressure will lead to a few scattered showers and storms in Illinois in the afternoon with the front arriving later at night. The rain will be moving through Iowa in the early afternoon in the west to the evening in the east. Behind the front temperatures will get knocked back some to start next week:

The humidity will be lower, too. Dew points will be in the mid 60s in eastern Iowa and near 70 degrees in Illinois on Sunday... that means MUGGY. Here's the dew points on Monday behind the front:

That will feel refreshing!! And that's just the beginning. Another cold front will move through on Wednesday and bring another chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Even cooler air moves in behind this front... Temperatures Wednesday night into Thursday morning will likely dip down into the 40s! That's 5 to 15 degrees below normal!

The afternoon will also be "cooler" with temperatures 10 to 15 degrees below normal for a June afternoon:

It will feel very springlike with low humidity to boot! Temperatures are expected to remain below normal through the middle of June. Here's the outlook from the Climate Prediction Center through June 18th:

We can just hope it'll get rid of some of the gnats....
