A GLOOMY DAY FOR MOMS...
Saturday wasn't half bad across the area as the severe threat largely held off for many of us. This is mostly because of early morning storms early and a lack of energy in the atmosphere. The warm front in place was robust, but it needed more of the ingredients to get things going.
There still were storms and numerous severe reports, including some tornadoes:
Many of the tornado reports in Iowa consisted of tornadoes intermittently touching down and overall brief tornadoes. Thankfully little damage has been reported with these storms.
Some showers and storms may develop and move through overnight with some activity lingering Sunday:
Regardless of the rain it will be cloudy and much cooler:
Moms deserve better than this but unfortunately temperatures will be running around 10 degrees below normal!
CONSIDER A STAY AT ONE OF THE MOST UNIQUE ACCOMMODATIONS IN THE MIDWEST...
Temperatures will gradually warm through the week as we dry out once again. Highs Monday:
And warmer Sunday:
Temperatures are expected to remain near/slightly above normal and the weather is expected to be fairly calm. Here' are the outlooks from the Climate Predictor Center through May 23rd:
The reason for this can be found well above our heads. A big high pressure system will be in place through much of next week. This creates northwesterly flow which tends to lead to quiet and comfortable conditions:
This doesn't mean it's completely quiet, but generally a drier pattern. We'll be dry for several days and then keep an eye on the next chance of rain Thursday and Friday:
Hopefully you made indoor plans with moms. Happy Mother's Day to all of the moms out there!
