HURRICANE HELENE...

The weather has been incredibly quiet in the region while a powerful storm raged in the southeast United States. Helene made landfall as a category 4 hurricane in the Big Bend region of Florida late Thursday night. The storm produced dangerous storm surge, tornadoes, and torrential rains.

15-20 feet of storm surge led to destruction in areas like Cedar Key, Florida who woke up to views like this Friday morning:

Further south near St. Pete and Treasure Island, feet of sand covered the roads:

The storm continued to the north and dumped inches and inches of rain over Georgia and the Carolinas. Unfortunately this led to horrific flooding in places like around Asheville, North Carolina:

Helene has now lost it's tropical characteristics and will continue to weaken. The remnants of the storm remain off to the south east of our region, but we just caught some clouds on Friday:

And despite how close that tropical moisture will be, we'll remain dry and mild this weekend. In fact, little to no rain is expected through Thursday:

There will be some changes in our temperatures next week, though. More on that in my next post.
