THE DAM HAS BURST....
After a 60-day period with just 3 days of rain to the tune of .25 inches, the dam has burst in Dubuque (and many other parts of my area). It's now rained 6 of the last 7 days, with the total a whopping 5.45 inches. To put it another way, in just 6 days, Dubuque has received 5.27 inches more rain than in the previous 2 months. I believe it's fair to say, the tide has turned.
Here are the 7-day rain totals ending Tuesday morning from the Midwest Regional Climate Center.
Below, you can see rain totals around my area since October 29th have been 200 to almost 500 percent above the mean.
The bright spot in all this wet weather is that much of the rain fell over parts of the Midwest that were in moderate to severe drought a week ago. This was exactly what the doctor ordered to replenish sub-soil moisture before winter frost enters the ground.
One thing we have not seen entering November is any cold or snow. Split flow has dominated the upper air pattern, limiting cold air intrusions. Looking at the mean 500mb upper air pattern, little change is indicated for at least the next 10 days, probably longer. That implies no snow through mid-November and temperatures that remain well above normal until late in the period. For perspective, normal highs around November 20th are in the low to mid 40s. Here's what the next 15 days look like on the ensembles of the GFS and EURO.
The GFS
The EURO
While no snow is anticipated, precipitation is still expected to be generous with an active southern stream jet in play. Amounts appear less than we've seen recently but still on the plus side of average. The GFS shows this for precipitation through November 21st.
These are the departures for the same period.
From now until Saturday, the area remains rain free. However, a cut-off low emerging from the 4 corner region brings the threat of more showers Saturday afternoon or evening. The GFS is far more bullish on amounts than the EURO, which has shown a significant decrease in rain totals. Confidence levels are not real high at this point on the track and speed of the disturbance, but I think for a cut-off low the system looks pretty progressive. For that reason, amounts may be lower than the GFS but slightly higher than the EURO, somewhat of a compromise. More on that tomorrow.
It does look like the disturbance lifts out early Sunday, leaving most of the day dry. Both Saturday and Sunday will see highs peak in the mid to upper 50s, perhaps 60 in the south Sunday. Clouds look fairly substantial both days, especially Saturday, with rain advancing from the southwest.
That's a wrap on a Wednesday. Hope your day is a bright one. Roll weather...TS

What a gem! The Little White Church exceeded our expectations. It was the perfect spot to meet up with another couple to relax and explore nearby Galena. We enjoyed the beautiful great room with its fireplace and amazing views of the rolling countryside. (The photos simply can't do it justice). The charming church/home was quiet, well appointed and clean. And Carolyn was proactive with instructions and a terrific communicator. We will definitely be back!

This place is so beautiful! Carolyn and Terry were so thoughtful and kind to let us have our wedding at the church. They even provided extra supplies in case we needed them. The private garden worked perfectly for our ceremony, and the backyard easily fit our reception needs. Not to mention, the balconies make perfect photo spots! My husband and I recommend the Little White Church and will be telling all our friends about it.
