WINTER IS STILL HANGING ON...

We can't seem to fully escape winter's grasp... evidenced by the HEAVY snow that fell Friday night into Saturday morning. Here are the snowfall totals in the region -- an impressive foot or more in many spots!

This storm had high moisture levels with it and a lot of energy/lift, leading to high snowfall rates - which lead to the heavy snowfall. The good thing about March snow is that the sun is strong and it usually doesn't stick around too long...

Of course where there's over a foot of snow it'll take a bit longer to melt.... You can see what areas were still covered in snow late Saturday:

Unfortunately we're not done... and there are Winter Weather Advisories posted in Iowa once again for Sunday:

The plus side is that the higher chances for heavier accumulation will be further west where the system comes through in the overnight/early morning hours. A narrow band of snow will develop:

Snow/mix is expected to the east as it will be after sunrise and accumulation may be tougher, but still possible. Here's a look at the snowfall totals on the HRRR (high resolution model that runs every hour):

Fairly similar to the NWS forecast:

Here we snow again... thankfully not the same places that were hit hard Friday and Saturday!

Be careful when shoveling the slop... and enjoy the white gold while it lasts...
