WINTER STORM WATCH...

Winter Storm Watches and Winter Weather Advisories have now been posted ahead of the prolonged snow event coming up.

Here's a look at the forecast from the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities.

Here's a wider view through the rest of Iowa from the National Weather Service in Des Moines.

I will say there is still some uncertainty in terms of snowfall totals and the exact placement of the heaviest snow. However, the potential is there for some big snowfall totals Thursday through Saturday. Here's a look at the latest GFS, European and NAM models -

The European right now is the outlier but I'm hoping later tonight there will be some agreement. I also believe the NAM numbers a bit high. Once again these are just models, not an actual forecast -- just something to use as guidance in reference to the forecasts above from the National Weather Service. There are still some kinks to work out with this forecast and we will have another update tonight.
