A KILLER RUN OF THE WEEKLIES...

Are you tired of winter? Are you looking for spring? Then stop reading now! This is fair warning that what you are about to read is R rated. It's only intended for adults and those of pioneer stock. Fair weather friends, this is not for you!

If you're still with me what I'm alluding to above is a killer run of the EURO weeklies which came out Thursday night. Going through March 28th they show a mountain of snow and a freezer full of cold. It's the direct result of an active storm track in a favorable position to deliver cold air.

Here's the 46 day temperature departures through March 25th. The entire nation is colder than average with the coldest anomalies from my area west.

The driving force behind the pattern will be the MJO (Madden Julien Oscillation) which is shown going through the holy grail of cold...phases 8, 1, 2, and 3. This and a crashing SOI (southern Oscillation Index) promotes the energetic pattern ahead.

With cold air expected to dominate the pattern, the active storm track should produce plenty of snow the next 4-6 weeks. Below you can see the glacier of snow the weeklies predict through March 25th

Here's a closer view of the control run. Parts of my area are shown with more than 40" of snow. All of my area with a minimum of 26". What an ominous trend to watch!

Total precipitation on the control is well above normal with the Midwest frequently located within the baroclinic boundary necessary for storm formation.

To sum it all up, there's one heck of a lot of potential in the table for the final third of winter. I gotta think there is at least one major storm coming and perhaps 2 before the end of March. I believe it's realistic to expect another 10-20" of snow this season...(if we can scare up a big one, maybe 25" for some). Overall, look for more colder days than warm ones. I'm expecting temperatures to average 2-4 degrees below normal through March 25th. There you have it in black and white. Time will tell if I'm correct but at least I took a stance. Roll weather...TS
