THE FIRST FALL FROST....
Some parts of the region saw frost last week, but the first widespread frost of the season is likely this week and it's right on time. Some patchy frost is possible Monday morning as temperatures drop into the 30s:
We'll have a mix of sun and clouds Monday with a bit of a breeze still. Temperatures will be in the 50s:
Some frost will be possible once again Monday night into Tuesday morning. Clouds will be clearing out and winds will be backing off, leading to the chance for frost:
Frost is most likely when skies are clear, winds are light and temperatures are near and below freezing. There also needs to be moisture in the air and moisture on the ground. Water molecules in the air touch a frozen surface (like the grass, mailbox, roof, windshield) and freezes to it.
The chance for more widespread frost will increase Tuesday night into Wednesday morning as a strong high pressure system in overhead:
Highs will be in the 50s Tuesday and by Wednesday morning we'll be in the 20s and 30s:
While frost is common this time of year, temperatures will go up toward the end of the week. There may be a cool down by the end of the month leading to some more frost. Here's the temperature trend for the Quad Cities:

Temperatures could touch near 80 again, but we're not getting nearly as warm as we have been the last few weeks.
