WINDS OF CHANGE....

It was hands down a gorgeous weekend in the Upper Midwest. Changes are coming, though, and we'll be locked in a colder pattern for the first half of May. And we begin Monday, unfortunately. Temperatures much cooler compared to Sunday:

That translates to temperatures running five degrees or so below normal (so not cold cold, but certainly colder than this weekend):

We're going to have some showers and thunderstorms to deal with, too. Especially late Monday into Tuesday as a front moves through the area.

The rest of the week will be fairly quiet, but cool with temperatures running in the 50s and 60s. The reason why is we're caught in northwest flow.

This is a pattern in the upper levels of the atmosphere that general promotes cooler and drier air. As a result we have these outlooks from the Climate Prediction Center for May 9-13:

We'll be caught in this pattern for a bit and should see a change toward the middle of May. For now we'll have to deal with 50s and 60s with low rain chances.
